Over the last few years, we'd seen more Emirati women hold leadership positions in the UAE. So for National Day 2020, I thought it would be interesting to celebrate the UAE through the eyes of an Emirati woman who was born the same year as the UAE.

 

Most National Day films focus on the country and its (all male) leaders and their achievements. This one was an intimate portrayal of a woman, with the specific angle of creating a parallel narrative between the country's growth and her own.

 

The film still pays homage to the country's leaders, but also explores the role of women in building the nation and their contribution in shaping the future of the UAE. Bringing a fresh perspective to celebrating the occasion.

 

This film was written, directed and edited by myself.
